Jaywalking
In the dark
Wearing dark clothing
Next to an intersection with a green light
Literally 30 seconds from a crosswalk
In no particular hurry
Like most things on the road, I’m OK with jaywalking as long as you don’t get in the way or make yourself a hazard. In other words, pick a smarter spot, wait until there’s an actual gap and RUN.

I had this happen to me, but he was still in my lane and it was an interstate in TX at 75 mph. Scared the absolute shit out of me.

In colorado, (probably alot of other places too) if you hit a jaywalker, its their fault. Not excusing hitting people just sayin if shit goes down, stupid gets punished

About once a week for the past few years, I encounter a guy walking towards me on my side of the street on my way to work (6:30AM, still dark). He’s actually doing everything he’s supposed to do...except he usually has dark clothes on.
The area where this happens has no sidewalks, and is kind of an area that’s about to become an honest-to-gosh suburb...so it’s still weird to see people walking on the street. I know to look for him, so it’s not always a surprise, but it’s infrequent enough that I have to think about it for a split second. Drives me nuts.

Also idiot.
At least they got the running part right, but they better work on timing... or stuff might happen...

Interstate... WTF...

As it should be. Not sure how it goes down here, but it wouldn’t shock me in the least if it was the driver’s fault.

Just... reflective or at least bright coloured clothes.
PLEASE

i normally get the person who runs on the lane that is clear, but then walks in front of me since he knows i see him.

This stuff gives me nightmares. My night driving visibility is already not great (I get big halos around lights, especially when my eyes are tired), and when it’s wet out it’s even worse... Thankfully, on trips my wife is more than willing to take over when I don’t feel safe driving anymore.

This happened to me last night driving home. 4 lane road, 45 mph speed limit, dark raining etc... I don’t want to hit anybody but these idiots are reducing those chances.

Man, I’ve witnessed a person getting hit by a car - not at high speed, but it ain’t pretty. Not worth risking saving a few seconds, believe me!
And FFS wear brighter clothing.

Do you wear glasses? Sounds like what I used to see.
Even still though, it’s sooo stupid. the only reason I saw him was because of him walking past someone’s taillight and I noticed the blink.

I don’t want to hit them either but sometimes I find myself almost hoping someone else does... which is disturbing.

200lb vs ~3600lb = you gonna have a bad time

you sir need rainx..

I do. I haven’t done it in eons.
Though tbh the RainX washer fluid is pretty good at maintaining the coating. With actual rain, it still rolls off OK. What you’re seeing here is a combination of salt spray, foggy window and the effects of being lazy and not scraping ice off the windshield (need new wipers).

I use the rainx fluid too, that plus the easy to apply spray stuff keeps you going for like 3 months vs using the paste and fluid where you get like 6 months.

When I lived in Sacramento it was much worse. I would frequently almost hit guys ridding black bikes wearing black clothing and ridding on the wrong side of the street.

Nearly watched two people get run over last night. Dark coats, hoods up, walking in the dark and fog between two gas stations past the intersection where traffic was turning onto the road between them. Never even LOOKED back to see if it was clear/if they were about to become roadmeat.

There’s a guy that bikes past my house every day. ALWAYS turns onto my street from the wrong side of the road, no lights, dark clothes.

Used to. Had LASIK 10+ years ago. My vision’s still better than 20/20, but the halos while driving at night (especially if I’m tired or have been staring at a computer screen all day) can be pretty bad. On divided highway it’s no problem, but a twisty backroad at night when my eyes are tired is really a no-go for me, unless there’s zero oncoming traffic.

These are the human equivalent of deer that jump into the side of your vehicle rather than just running across the road

I almost pegged a guy last night walking in the middle of the road. There was a cleared sidewalk not 4ft away...

These, above all others, piss me off. Sidewalk. Side-walk. Walk beside the road. What’s so hard.
Darwin award nominees, the lot of them.

And they’ll be all over some ambulance-chaser lawyer if their dumb ass gets hit.
I see it most often in larger cities. I always thought it had to do with people walking on streets where the sidewalk is not always maintained. This was in a small town and I could see the clear sidewalk...
